Symbols and meaning:
This seven meters long ikat woven is one of the longest pieces that Jems designed. Usually, long piece of ikat woven or so-called Rohubanggi is worn during the war to protect the warriors' bodies from attack. Nowadays it is very hard to find Rohubanggi in East Sumba.
The pattern itself tells about the Marapu belief with a mix of adopted symbols such as lion with royal litter from Dutch's coin during the colonialism era and dragon which is adapted from Chinese's porcelains, also the patola pattern from India.
Another dominant symbol is Prawn (in-between the dragons). Prawn represents the life after the death. The whole piece of this two-sided textile represents the balance of life.
